The jackals of Bitcoin
| | Hi to the community. As a tribute (thank you for your patience) to r/bitcoin I wrote a creative writing piece you can read here: The jackals of BitcoinBy Alex Corso People who made 200 IQ moves. Early birds. Risk takers. Strictly no jeets! If you belong to this rectangle, and you are not “just one of the early Bitcoin buyers” but one of those who bought at that time and had the foresight to patiently hold on to it until 2024. Congratulations, you’re in the top 10%. Several bought, few kept. There are more than a few stories of people who bought and experimented early on when Bitcoin was in its embryonic form. Some were too hasty in exchanging it when it was low in value to buy a pizza as they didn’t have the filters, analysis, patience and of course luck, to see further. They didn’t have the inclination and luck, if you prefer, to risk holding it long term as few did. And there’s a name for them. They are known as the “jackals” or the Top 10%. The Elite, the best of the best, who have been stoically waiting for the rise of this cryptocurrency. And indeed, it has soared to heights worth expressing in percentages. The percentage increase from Bitcoin’s lowest price of approximately $0.0008 to its highest price of approximately $68,000 is about 8,499,999,900% The jackal. A Greek slang term used metaphorically to describe just that: “The quick-witted man, the one who learns easily and uses his knowledge to achieve his goals.” Worth mentioning: in the Christian Bible the jackal is mentioned over a dozen times as a symbol of abandonment, loneliness, and desolation. But what is the x-ray of these people? A hodgepodge of probably individuals with deep knowledge and understanding of technology, people who saw further ahead and moved faster than others. Real winners, no doubt recorded anonymously (or even not) on the “financially successful investment side of the story” in a royal move that paid unimaginable dividends. Where these people are, it is hard to know because anonymity is inherent in the nature of cryptocurrencies and the possession of them which implies wealth. You may have noticed in your social circle that a member has made “strange” purchases, inconsistent with their financial situation. Unreasonable expenses perhaps expressed in a flashy car for the less discreet or perhaps a permanent irretrievable disappearance and the start of a new life perhaps with a new identity in a distant country. Somewhere, amongst the crowd, are these jackals who at an unprecedented and critical juncture in world economic history made a 200 IQ move. We won’t know much (maybe ever) and that’s the greatest fascination, as the mystery remains. Like a shooting star that almost lightning fast disappears from the sky, the only trail it can perhaps leave is captured by this unconventional song. But we are sure that somewhere, some people involved in the economy, perhaps bankers, perhaps analysts, perhaps investors and heads of state have discussed several times this issue that you are reading here. People we will certainly not learn about in schools as society does not want to make them an example to follow. People who when they are so damn good, for the state, it is a one way street to hire them. People who are by all accounts “Olympic champions” in hacking, cryptography, social engineering and so many other things for which one can flatteringly call you not a man but a demon. People who, if you put them all together with the right infrastructure, form an inconceivably dangerous (in terms of capabilities) core that can go from bringing down governments to raising questions in the global community that we don’t know the answers to. People who may be members of think tanks of heads of state for whom it has been arranged to buy their silence with hard cash and signed clauses. People who don’t have a certain phenotype and look necessarily Hollywood, but have synapses and knowledge that cost billions. When we were kids we thought Neo lived a strange life — living alone in a dark room, on the internet, falling asleep with headphones — 20+ years later it’s almost the same for some of us.
