With Ulbricht free, what happens to the silkroad btc held by site?

Seems unlikely, but would be nice if the seized btc were now returned to owners / could be claimed. (Ideally not returned to the thief who stole them near the end). Asking for a friend.

I don't know if a pardon undoes the conviction and remedy in its entirety or just the punishment of the person.
